From the beginners standpoint, this book is awesome and has already helped produce some great barbeque results. In case you are after competition level materials with some more complex recipes and trade secrets, this book may be restricting. But after all a true chef isn't afraid to experiment with their own ideas.
I would definitely recommend this guide to those who have less to no experience with smokers. I was sure there are better finds out there for recipes., One of the best cookbooks we've purchased. The temps are spot on and the flavors are great. We are using an electric smoker and have taken a liking to using cherry wood. Turkeys, salmon, and chickens have been incredible providing a few methods. If you pay attention to one part of the book...... Pay attention to the brining part. Brining is awesome with smoking. Don't believe me personally, give it a try once with and then once without and you will agree. We have grilled for years which book helped me make our meals even better. Totally recommended., I acquired it for my Husband and he uses everything the time!!, My wife gave me an electric smoker for Christmas. I will be a complete novice when it comes to smoking various meats. I purchased this guide to guide through the smoking process. I was not disappointed. The quality recipes are great. And the writer provides simple steps for success. So far I've used to smoke a whole chicken, pork ribs and a pork butt roast for pulled pork. All came away perfect. The meat was tender and juicy. And almost all of all, tasted great. I purchased the amazon kindle version because I wanted right then and there. I kind of desired I purchased the document copy as it's better to browse through the quality recipes and pictures., A very good source of information, and a good research guide. Covers the various smoker types, the procedure for seasoning (prepping) the unit. The author adopts detail as to why this step is necessary. Includes recipes for different meat and desserts (! ), and includes charts demonstrating cooking times and the necessary internal temperatures so the user knows when it can done. Covers necessary and useful equipment and supplies. It's a great research for getting started so that you'll understand what if you're doing., I want to make my very own " real" bar-b-q with my electric smoker. I possess several books on smoking and grilling and this any of my favorites. Many of the other books (like Steven Raichlen's) focus mainly on grilling meats or smoking meats on a grill with only small side-bar notes on by using a smoker. Other books have many recipes for " competitive" barbecue using huge amounts of meat. I love this book because it offers great recipes and simple, useful techniques for someone learning to smoke meats at home by using a smoker. I actually have enjoyed several of the recipes over and over. If you are fresh to by using a smoker (or experienced) I highly recommend this book., This guide tells you everything you need to know about smoking meat. I knew absolutely nothing about barbecue or smoking purchasing this guide and it's been a great resource. I'd recommend this to anyone just getting into smoking.
