Thanksgiving is a good chance to tell you which i spent the last few days with the author and her family back in Alexandria, Cairo. I'm a slow reader (In uncommon cases it becomes an advantage). I spent a leisurely time with the girl at the preparatory school in Gezira, the boarding school in Brighton UNITED KINGDOM plus more. It is the best memoir I actually read. It was just " A Sip" from the Nile. Less than I expected about Egypt, yet I was totally compensated because they are an romantic part of a warm loving Jewish-Egyptian family that she exquisitely described. The woman superb English was like music to my ear (Yes, I also listened to her audio). This morning, one of my Facebook Arab-Egyptian friends mentioned Smouha Town as an example of the Jewish contribution to the wellbeing of Egypt. I had been proud to be able to comment on this post.
So happy warm thanksgiving to whoever buys the publication., After returning home from my third trip to Egypt, I saw a review for Sipping from the Nile: My Exodus from Egypt by Jean Naggar. I knew nothing about this book but since We have a relationship with Egypt, I paid full price for my Amazon kindle. This book so nabbed me that when We saw the . 00 Kindle deal today, We was so happy more people would also see the fascinating life of the author. I was curious to see if anyone had written a review so I looked at the book's page and was horrified at some of the harsh and hateful reviews--in defense, I decided to write my own review.

Since my articles are rusty (I still constantly read--I just don't write), I thought the best review We could possibly write would be from a duplicate of my first 'author' fan letter to Jean Naggar:

Hello, Mrs. Naggar,

Although I feel like I know you (after reading your memoir) and should call you 'Jean, ' I won't, since you were raised in a time when game titles were always used as a sign of regard. I would like you to know that this is my very first fan page!
I was a girl, a Methodist Swedish-American from Alabama, a upon the market school counselor/psychologist who looks at her trips to Egypt as high points of her life. Also, being raised by great visitors who passed on a love of books to me is a surprise that I'll have all my entire life.

Your book was so unbelievably wonderful, I cannot even tell you how much I loved it. Your life has recently been my regular companion for several days and now I'm very sad that I am no extended invited into your home (mansion, ha). If you could see how much I am crying right now, you would be very, very, happy. A person see, I'm crying as a result of beauty of your words, the poignancy of the story, the deep love of your close knit family and because of your losses. And because I finished your publication this afternoon *sigh*!

Any time I was reading, We kept wondering if you made it back to your homeland and I am happy to see you received to share your visit with your children.
I have many questions (like how on world did you remember such intricate details of your daily life? or, is your much loved mother still alive? ) but I imagine We need to ask in other places.

Anyway, I'm so happy that I can communicate with the author this way at least (email). We read your book on my Kindle but We think I'm going to buy the hardcover so We can see the pictures (couldn't make out the extraordinary images on the Kindle) and possess a much loved story in my library at home. Plus, I have a group of friends in my Church who exchange books around. Do you ever autograph books?

Thank-you for writing this book--what a blessing for your grandchildren's great-grandchildren!
With Deepest Affection,
Lynne Caldwell

Can you even believe the girl wrote the sweetest response that will stay in my inbox forever? This is the biography of an extremely wealthy and privileged gal being raised during a time before most of the Jews were horribly exiled from Egypt. My first degree was History and I never knew about the Egyptian Jewish populace. I do LOVE reading about people who have lives very different from my own--HARRY KNITTER? Yes, I might have adored to have a new wand and to have gone to Hogwarts. This memoir is how the other 50 percent lived therefore i enjoyed reading about someone whose life was foreign to my own. This is a story about people in whose lives had class, reproduction, education (come on, these people spoke 4 languages) and a deep love of a close knit family. Most families today are like mine, my parents never lived near their parents, my parents shifted across the country after my marriage and my kids sadly live far from me.

Plus, when I think of writing my own resource, it would be a boring one half of one chapter (how the heck would I recall what happened to me when We was eleven? ). This book is very in depth and is peppered with dozens and dozens of photos. I can't commence to wonder how the author managed to escape from her country with such a cache. I did so conclusion up buying the paperback form of this book therefore i could see the images and so I could loan it to my friends. And, the best part!!!! Jean Naggar answered all my questions. Am We lucky or what?!, This book gave a good picture of life in Egypt for a fairly large family. They certainly were pretty well-off since they had servants. This also was interesting to listen to about the author's experiences in school in Great britain. Descriptions of family users were helpful even though I got somewhat bogged down trying to bear in mind every one specifically. The creator wrote beautiful tributes to her parents and grandpa and grandma who gave her love and support through the girl many and varied activities., This is beautifully written, with details enough to give a strong feeling of being a first-hand spectator. Typically the closeness of the family and the strong traditions are heartwarming. We should all have such a strong sense of family and of our previous. I loved the publication, and possess recommended to several people., This is actually the story of a multicultural, affluent Legislation family residing in Cairo, Egypt — but connected familially and historically with Italy, Spain, England and other European countries. Jean Naggar's branch of the family lived in Egypt for 200 years. This memoir is told with such affection, and such focus on detail — and to background — that I felt like I was there, almost part of the household. We worried with them over the Nazi menace; I noticed the gunfire using their Cairo home during the Suez crisis (which I'd never given a thought to, before)... I've never felt so connected to background, when i did while reading this memoir. It was a book about cable connections, really. And it's told with such wisdom and affection that the viewer can't help but be drawn in.

There were other unexpected connections made, for me: The author switched out to be the literary agent for an e book I'd enjoyed 20 years ago; and after departing Cairo she lived in Rickmansworth in England, when i once did.

This is the memoir worth reading., Choice to buy this book, despite some somewhat varied reviews, because We have been interested in that part of the world, and because I in brief visited Alexandria and Giza and thought it could invoke some memories. I can't say it did either, because it is so transformed from the world the girl described, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the publication. Yes, she grew upwards privileged, and is unashamed, shameless about it. But this book isn't so much a history lesson because the telling of her own family's history, and in a very readable way. I wouldn't say it is so much about her exodus from egypt since it is about her life, mostly in egypt, and then how her exodus changed her life. In addition to a fascinating life it has been.
