My 11-year old son check out this and was so handled and inspired by Malala's story. He normally only likes to read sci-fi, and so i was shocked when he came back to me after reading the publication with tears in the eyes, saying how grateful and inspired this book was for him. Nothing has ever moved him just how this story did. I actually highly recommend this tale to any Tweens and teenagers. It really is sure to motivate empathy and understanding., Wonderful, informative read. It was fully accessible to my 3rd-grader as a read-aloud, and we were thrilled to be reading it when the announcement came that she'd won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. The text is clear and participating, and the photos are beautiful and informative, too. I've heard a few brief interviews with Malala, and her voice comes through loud and clear in the text. Both mother and son arrived away with a new appreciation for struggles others face on earth., My 14 year old daughter is dyslexic, and a unwilling reader. However, the very first day she downloaded this book she stayed up late to the night reading. At the moment, she talks about this book to me, with her friends, and to everyone else! The storyline of this young woman is outstanding and inspiring, and the writing is moving, gripping, and engaging. This is the " young readers" version of the publication, which means the textual content is accessable to young or even more reluctant readers. I actually cannot speak if this version is simply much easier to read, or it a number of the more problematic materials is redacted. However, my daughter and I give this book 5 celebrities for inspiration, engagement, and education. And, since the mommy of a girl, and a reluctant reader, I actually couldn't be more excited., What a great thing to do on the first day of school: end Malala's short and very accessible autobiography. If you ever wonder if education and learning matters anymore, remember that the Taliban shot Malala for going to college and advocating that women around the world be permitted to do the same. That was somewhat surprising at how "normal" Malala's years as a child is: she is not the child of opportunity or so-called liberal, modern, Western, Eurocentric indoctrination. The girl mother did not learn to read and did not allow her face to be photographed until Malala's speech to the UN. Malala herself shows great reverence towards the girl religion and, when recovering from the gun shot pains in England, is significantly shocked while watching _Bend It Like Beckham_, which staff showed her trying to make her feel "at home, " at the women running around in sports bras and shorts. Most enlightening is the firsthand description of her native Swat, a naturally abundant land captured among a weak but democratic government, a strong but self a aggrandizing military, and the extremist Taliban seeking to impose its order. I desire and pray that Malala will someday return to a safe homeland, happy of her daughters' performance in their school., Typically the book was very necessary for me, because I occupied Swat Valley from 2005-2006, and met Malala in brief in 2011 about 1. 5 years before she was attacked. Reading the girl book brought back many memories in my opinion of places I have been. Any time she wrote about the smoothness of the Pashtun people, I could agree with her as I experienced the people in a similar way. The book is written like a journal, and we the readers are invited to experience Malala's life and the events that led up to her being attacked. That is so important for people in the U. T. to get a clearer picture of the life span of men and women in Pakistan, especially rural Pakistan, and Malala helps to make this possible. I think this is a publication that should be in every school library in the U. S., our children need to know about Malala's world whenever we are one day to have peace.

---B. Rabia O'Loren
CEO of The Roshni Centre for Women, Typically the story of Malala is compelling and profound. This book covers much more than just the intimate details of a cowardly and vicious attempt on a young girls life, but the book gives a huge amount of information about the region, the people, their thinking and values. Malala provides us a peek into a world that most westerners know very little about. I was surprised at the depth of personal and geographic details in the book, which really helped the reader to comprehend the dynamics that led to the attempt on the girl life. Malala and the girl mom and dad are inspiring with their courageous and relentless quest of education and equal rights for girls and women. I truly enjoyed this publication and would highly recommend it., I was truly impressed by " I actually am Malala". It is difficult to think that this guide was written in an additional language by a teenager. Malala's grammar and range of the English language far surpasses much of what I have observed in many books I use read, and makes for streaming, easy reading.

Throughout the girl story, Malala's dedication to female education remains staunch. There were times when her almost-adult attitude irritated me - she looked too good to be true - but then, a few pages on, she delighted me with a revelation of typically young-teenager behavior, in one instance, bringing shame on herself and her family.

Three years after this publication was published, I wonder what Malala is doing now. Will she actually return to her beloved country? How different will she find it if she does? I've found it an error to revisit childhood locales because I actually have always come away disappointed.

And how will surviving in Birmingham affect Malala's ideals? Fighting for woman education rights in that city would be similar to taking coals to Newcastle. Nevertheless , I wish her success in the girl championship in whatever market she chooses to battle.
