1. Install CSE-Online on your desktop

Windows users

Here are the three easy steps for installing CSE-Online on your desktop.
  1. Register for a free user account at CSE-Online
  2. For Windows Click CSE-Online Installer to install CSE-Online on your desktop.
  3. Click Test Connection to check Internet requirements for running CSE-Online.  If the test connection failed, CSE-Online may not work properly.

A CSE-Online icon is now appeared on your Desktop.  

Linux users

For Linux users 

  1. Register for a free user account at CSE-Online
  2. Download CSE-Online-1.0-Linux-x86-Install 
  3. Change mode CSE-Online-1.0-Linux-x86-Install to 755
  4. Run CSE-Online-1.0-Linux-x86-Install
  5. Click Test Connection to check Internet requirements for running CSE-Online.  If the test connection failed, CSE-Online may not work properly.

The installer will check for Jave Runtime Environment on your machine, if it can not find the JRE it will pop up a warning dialog. Please install JRE by following these steps:

  1. Install Java Runtime Environment.  Click Here.
  2. You may create a link for java by using following commands:
    • rm -f /usr/bin/java
    • ln -s /opt/jre-1.5.0_11/bin/java /usr/bin/java
    • or
    •  ln -s /opt/ jdk1.5.0_11/bin/java /usr/bin/java

        Where /opt/jre-1.5.0_11/ is the home directory of java runtime environment and /opt/ jdk1.5.0_11/ is the home directory of java.

Mac users (in progress)

Problems with installation

Reinstalling CSE-Online

1. Go to http://CSE-Online.net and run the Installer

2. Select the option to remove existing CSE-Online

3. Run the Installer again to restall it.

NOTE:  We know that if you use the Windows utility tool 'Add or Remove programs' in the Windows Control pannel, it will not properly remove all CSE-Online components and it will cause problem with job submission.  So we recommend to use our Installer to remove existing CSE-Online program.

2. Set up your desktop environment

Once you have installed CSE-Online on your desktop, first opening of the application you will have a pre-defined Computational Chemistry workspace. You can add more applications into this workspace from the application catalog which can be initiated from the CSE-Online desktop environment.  CSE-Online allows the users to have more than one workspace. Each may have a different set of application tools from the CSE-Online application catalog. Subsequent login, the user just double click on a workspace that he/she wants to use.

3. How CSE-Online works

CSE-Online introduces a paradigm shift on how the users access their data, application tools and computing resources. Thus it is important for you to get some understanding on how CSE-Online works to appreciate and maximize its usefulness for your research or education. Click Here for more details.
